Our story

A restaurant in Cartagena’s Old Town inspired by the flavors, ingredients and roots of the Colombian Caribbean.

Sea, land
and fire

The KarMaiRí story begins with the land and three essential forces: the sea, which brings freshness, movement and the richness of Caribbean waters; the land, which connects us with fruits, spices, ingredients and roots; and fire, which stands for transformation, technique and creativity.

Crab is one of the stars of our cuisine. The experience extends to cocktails, music, atmosphere and every little detail, so that a visit becomes more than a meal: a true feast for the senses.

The name KarMaiRí comes from a linguistic interpretation linked to the Carib peoples who lived on this land before the Spanish arrived.

According to the interpretation gathered by physician and historian Miguel Camacho Sánchez in his book Kalamarí, crónica de Cartagena de Indias, drawing on linguist Antonio Vasillieri Morales, the Caribs used these three words.

Kar

To name something important or outstanding.

Mai

To refer to the land.

Rí

To name bodies of water.

From this union comes Kar-Mai-Rí

Its literal translation is “important coastal land”, an interpretation that ties the name to the essence of the place that inspires us: Cartagena, its land and its close bond with the Caribbean Sea.

Food & Drinks

KarMaiRí blends contemporary cooking with seafood, meats, rice dishes, pastas and plenty to share, with crab as one of the stars of the menu.

The experience is rounded out by signature cocktails, live music and an atmosphere made for everything from lunch or dinner to special celebrations, birthdays, anniversaries and nights out with friends.

KarMaiRí brings together food, cocktails, music and the spirit of the Caribbean in one place.
